The Route:Start at the car park at Malmsmead. Cross the lane from the car park and start the walk along the track which leaves Malmsmead via a field gate and sign-posted to Southern Wood.

The track leads up through the wood and down onto a small lane. Stop for a while to take in the spectacular views over the valley ahead before turning left here to follow the lane for a few yards before turning left again onto a track rising back into the woods and sign-posted Brendon Common.

The path eventually emerges onto open moorland. Keep left at a point where a farm track leads off to the right, finally reaching a field gate opening onto a small lane. Cross the lane and go straight across following the stony track opposite. Keep to the right at a major fork and continue along the track eventually fording a little stream.

At the next meeting point of paths turn left and walk for a short distance over the brow of the hill to a more major junction of paths marked by a sign post. Here cross straight over the other path and follow the signs to the Doone Valley.

Follow the path around the top of a valley fording a small stream. Continue on and after a while the path opens out on to more grassy ground leading you eventually to a field gate. Go through the gate and continue in roughly the same direction as you descend down into Doone Valley.

At the bottom reaching a hedge bear left along the bottom track which follows the left hand side of the valley with Badgeworthy Water to your right. Continue down the Doone Valley following the banks of Badgeworthy Water crossing various smaller streams as you go eventually passing Cloud Farm on your right which offers walkers a welcome break with the chance to enjoy a cream tea.

Just past Cloud Farm the path divides offering you a choice of two field gates, take the top field gate to your left hand side. The route leads up out of Doone Valley onto a farm track and finally to a tarmac lane where you turn right and descend back to Malmsmead.
